Calders
The municipality of Calders is located in the southwestern part of the Moianès plateau, which acts as a natural separation between the plains of Vic and Bages.
Its municipal area, with an area of 33 km², includes, in addition to the main town of Calders, other population centers such as La Guardia, El Oller, Las Hectareas, La Colonia Jorba, and a good number of farmhouses with a strong historical imprint. The road connecting Manresa with Vic crosses the municipality from end to end (approximately 13 km), largely following the parallel course of the Calders River and partially coinciding with the route of the old Strata Francisca road. This road intersects with the road connecting Sabadell with Prats de Lluçanès.
The highest point in the municipality is located on the border with Moià, at 664 meters above sea level, while the lowest point, near the Llobregat River, is 260 meters above sea level. Calders borders the municipalities of Artés and a small part of Avignon to the north; Moià to the east; Monistrol de Calders and Talamanca to the south; and Navarcles to the west. The current urban center is located on the ridge that separates the valleys of the Calders River and the Malrubí stream. This elevated location gives it a unique microclimate: mild summers, less harsh winters than in the flat areas, and a virtual absence of fog.
Today, Calders has over 1,000 registered residents, but during weekends and the summer months, its population can double. This occasional increase in inhabitants is largely explained by the presence of a large number of second homes scattered throughout the area, as well as the various rural tourism houses, holiday camps, and renowned restaurants that attract numerous visitors. The municipality has sports facilities both in the village and in La Guardia, with a swimming pool, tennis courts, a soccer field, multi-sports areas, and pétanque courts. The population increase is also reflected in the cultural, social, and sporting vitality of Calders, thanks to the work of a large number of active organizations. In Calders, in addition to enjoying the peace, the scenery, and the good weather, you can engage in a variety of activities such as hiking, climbing, cycling, and horseback riding.
The quality of Calders ' tourist and culinary offerings have made this small town a popular destination, especially during the holiday season. The walking routes and itineraries, for hiking enthusiasts, and the locals' appreciation for their historical heritage allow for rich cultural and scenic visits and a break from the routine. Visitors should visit the tourist information point, located in the former prison, a 17th-century building in the Plaza Mayor.
