David Jobé: Catalonia among vineyards, peaks, and a glass in hand

Journalist and the soul behind the @enoturista project, David Jobé travels the country with a curious eye and a glass in hand. For him, Catalonia is a territory experienced by walking and tasting: from climbing to the highest point of Montserrat to enjoying a long-aged sparkling wine in a farmhouse surrounded by vineyards. With a passion for nature and wine culture, he combines landscapes and aromas in a story that invites leisurely exploration.

At femturisme.cat, we spoke with him to find out his favorite spots, the experiences he recommends, and the places he's yet to discover.

A Catalonia that is walked, tested and offered

What is your favorite spot in Catalonia?

Montserrat. I'm from Olesa de Montserrat and I love climbing. If you have good legs, I recommend hiking to San Jerónimo for an incredible view. There are also many wineries in the area worth exploring.

Is there any place in Catalonia that brings back fond memories?

La Fosca beach in Palamós. It's an idyllic spot year-round: in summer, it's bustling with life and bathers; in the off-season, it's peaceful and perfect for unwinding. It's a place where the beauty of the Costa Brava shines through unfiltered.

What Catalan experience or tradition do you think everyone should experience at least once?

Harvesting grapes. It's a magical moment to understand the reality of the vineyards: treading grapes, getting dirty, experiencing the atmosphere of a wine festival... An experience I highly recommend.

Vintage

The grape harvest is one of the most iconic moments of the year in rural Catalonia, full of symbolism, activity, and celebration. It marks the peak of the vineyard's cycle, when the fruits of long labors in the fields are harvested. In Catalonia, where the winemaking tradition is an essential part of its identity, the grape harvest is experienced as much more than just agricultural labor: it is a true cultural and tourist celebration.

If you had to recommend just one thing to someone visiting Catalonia for the first time, what would it be?

Leave Barcelona. The city is wonderful, but the landscapes nearby are equally or even more fascinating: vineyards, sea, mountains... The different Catalan wine appellations are a journey in themselves, each with its own unique personality.

What corner of Catalonia have you still wanted to discover?

Pedraforca. It's an iconic mountain, and I'd love to train to climb it and enjoy the views. I also have many other Catalan peaks on my toes.

If you had to get me wet... what wine would you choose?

I always order Catalan wine. Although I like them all, I prefer sparkling wines over still wines. I love long-aged sparkling wines. But the most important thing is that everyone orders their favorite Catalan wine: we have many of them, and they're all of great quality.

Wine Tasting

David Jobé reminds us that Catalonia is a country to be experienced both calmly and intensely. Climb a peak, taste a sparkling wine, walk on the sand...

It's all part of the same journey: discovering the wealth we have close to home.
