Medinyà celebrates the 15th edition of the Storytelling Fair on September 14, 2025!

This year, the Medinyà Storytelling Fair Association is organizing the fifteenth edition of one of the municipality's most important cultural events: the Storytelling Fair, which will be held on Sunday, September 14, 2025. As usual, the old town of Medinyà will be transformed into a grand stage dedicated entirely to the world of stories and children's literature.

With a clear focus on cultural and educational outreach, the fair offers activities for all ages —with a special focus on family audiences —including book presentations, storytelling, theater, puppet shows, music, creative writing and illustration workshops, and much more. Year after year, storytelling is the guiding thread of this unique artistic and community event in Catalonia.

In addition to featuring bookstores, publishers, libraries, writers, and artisans, the fair also offers space to non-profit organizations and charitable projects that use storytelling as a tool for social and cultural transformation.

Contests to promote creative and literary talent

To encourage participation and give visibility to new talent, the fair offers several competitions:

  • Graphic Image Contest, which defines the visual identity of the fair each year.
  • Joan Bahí Oral Storytelling Competition, aimed at storytellers.
  • Modest Prats Illustrated Children's Story Contest, which awards the best story submitted with the edition and pays tribute to the man who was the town's parish priest and a great defender of the Catalan language.

Tribute to Hans Christian Andersen and end of the Joan Bahí competition

This year, the fair commemorates the 150th anniversary of Hans Christian Andersen's death by dedicating the final of the Joan Bahí Storytelling Competition to him, which will be broadcast live throughout the day. The finalists will have been previously selected by a jury composed of professionals from libraries, theater, schools, and the organization itself.

This competition, named after the fair's founder, aims to promote oral storytelling and voice as instruments of artistic expression.

A fair made by the people and for the people

The Fira del Conte is made possible thanks to the dedication of volunteers and the active involvement of the Medinyà residents, along with the support of local authorities and cultural organizations. It is organized by the Medinyà Storytelling Fair Association, with the collaboration of the Medinyà City Council, Sant Julià de Ramis, the Girona Provincial Council, the Gironès Regional Council, and the Department of Culture of the Generalitat (Catalan Government).

Over the years, the fair has established itself as a benchmark event on the Catalan cultural calendar. Its commitment to the Catalan language and culture has been recognized with the 32nd ADAC (Girona Cultural Action Association) Award for Linguistic and Cultural Normalization.
