L'Espluga Calba
The municipality is located in a very uneven territory, settled on caves covered by stone slabs that are used as cellars due to their good temperature. The toponym of Espluga Calba comes from these slabs: from the Latin spelunca (cave), and calva, which means "bare land, without grass".
The municipality, relatively important in the Middle Ages, has been losing inhabitants significantly in recent times. The inhabitants of Espluga Calba are mainly dedicated to agriculture (with the cultivation of olive trees, almond trees and vineyards), but also to the textile industry thanks to the Cooperative.
The castle, of Arab origin (11th-12th centuries), is the most outstanding architectural element in the municipality, in which the church and the Town Hall are also relevant.
