Road to the Roset Castle in Vilada

This tour brings us closer to the sunny sector of the municipality of Vilada, under the Sierra de Picamill (1,415 m), where we will find the ruins of the Castle of Roset and enjoy wonderful views of the Mergançol valley and shady mountains of Pincancel, the most outstanding is the hill of Mediodía, 1,073 m) in the southern sector of the term.
Also, we will discover old farmhouses and how their activity favored the mosaic of fields, cultivation plans and pastures, increasingly scarce.
In the technical sheet, the length of the route is 9 kilometers with a positive height difference of 590 meters, and it can be done with an approximate duration of 3 hours.
We left the park of the swings, at the entrance of the village coming from Berga, to then climb up town passing between the chapel of Fatima and Can Ribes, the current town hall.
We arrive at the church square with views behind and we go up towards the cemetery, leaving the best view of the house of La Ferrera on our left. On the right a raised farmhouse, that of the Head of the Vineyard, which by the name and terraces of the coast makes us think of old crops.
We will always climb up the neck of the Roset where we will find two crosses. This first section passes through a pine forest of young tiles dotted with blades and some white maple.
Now, with alternating rises with landings, we pass over Can Roset, through a afeixat forest where old holm oaks re-grow until we reach a deposit and its source. From here begins a beautiful path: the path of water that, with a gentle slope, tumbled high on dry stone walls, others crossing sections of rock in the sector of the Roquet (named Mal Pas, do not suffer that no there is no difficulty), even hollow in a rock, will take us to the source of the Hawthorn.
We will have crossed by continental holm oaks that contrast with the rest of the vegetation, dominated by the pine forest with boxwood. The blades, spectacular autumnal color notes, are present in the shady corners. We can get our head in some natural viewpoint from where we will see the Masó ravine, the fields, the farmhouse and the nearby cliffs of Tastanós and La Gotzera.
After the last climbs we reach the pass of the Castillo's house. It is worth going to the cherry trees and the rubble of the house. This anciently cultivated collar is now invading pine trees.
We leave the road to get closer to the Castle of Roset, going through a nice and straight cobblestone road that crosses a small open gate in the rock. We are surprised by the first views and the castle ruins at the very bottom. Do not miss another gate that leads to the balcony, exceptional viewpoint of the valley of Masó, Mergançol and Sierra de Picancel, the surroundings of Vilada and, if we turn, the hills of Tastanós. It is a good place to enjoy the landscape and the birds of rock environment like the hawks or the duke; easier to see will be the rocky plane, an all-black swallow that lives in breeding colonies on these cliffs.
After this rewarding stop, we will go down alternating track and trails, crossing some easy conglomerate rock grades with beautiful views towards Borredà, until linking with the GR 241. By track we reach the beautiful corner of the fields and more of Viladomat and later we passed behind of the more of the Coromina by a path that avoids the track of the house. Then we will cross the Ferns' hole where the scarce sulphurous source of the Mas, will alert us of its presence with a slight stench.
It only remains to reach the village entering through the orchards of the neighborhood of the church and last of the Casa de la Farrera.
