Carnival of Vilanova i la Geltrú

The Carnival of Vilanova i la Geltrú is documented in the year 1790. Prohibited by the Francoist authorities, it was recovered in the street in 1955, a recovery that was completed between 1976 and 1981, maintaining the same scheme of the carnivals of the second half of the 19th century.

Declared as a Patrimonial Festival of National Interest by the Generalitat de Catalunya, recognizing the history, evolution and tradition of one of the most important Carnivals in southern Europe. Vilanova i la Geltrú watches over the maintenance and dissemination of this festival which, in addition to being governed by the oscillations of the moon (which is perfectly in keeping with the character of Vilanoví), maintains an open and progressive relationship with all the citizens who participate.
