Aloja - Fantastic Medieval Fair of Banyoles

A new edition of Aloja, the Fantastic Medieval Fair of Banyoles, is coming!

Aloja is Banyoles' medieval and fantasy fair. Focused on children, Aloja aims to raise awareness of the city's medieval origins and its long legendary history, with numerous legends rooted in the region that have been passed down through oral tradition from the elders to their grandchildren.

For a few days, the old quarter of Banyoles is transformed, reliving knightly battles, the entrance of Abbot Bonitus, a medieval market, and many activities and workshops for all ages.

The Medieval Market, with nearly fifty stalls selling crafts and local products, is one of the busiest spots, along with children's rides and workshops, the cavalry school, pony rides, and exhibitions of ancient trades. There are also spaces such as the armor exhibition and the living archaeology section, which offer a participatory way to discover history.

Alma Cubrae's shows and numerous parades are some of the main attractions: from medieval musicians and the "Arbre Màgic" (Magic Tree) to heroes, innkeepers, and fantasy characters, including the peasant stilt walker and the grand nighttime fire parade with a pyrotechnic finale. The historical reenactment of the "Pasada de Armas" (War Parade) of Abbot Guillem de Pau (Abbot Guillem de Pau's Parade of Arms) and the finale with "Xavier Potter and the Relics of Sant Martirià" reinforce the fair's epic spirit.

Parallel activities include a visit to the Monastery of Sant Esteve, the discovery of the Sant Martirià casket, and the chance to sail across the pond in the Tirona boat following the legend of Morgat.
