2 routes along the Monastrell path
Following the Foix reservoir, a route in 2 stages, from Sant Sadurní d'Anoia to Sant Pere Molanta and from this town very close to Vilafranca to Castellet. In addition to natural places of interest, you will also pass by jewels of cultural heritage such as the monastery of San Sebastián and the archaeological site of Olèrdola.
1. From Sant Sadurní d'Anoia in Sant Pere Molanta
Stage that departs from the center of Sant Sadurní d'Anoia and passes through other urban centers of the Penedès, such as Lavern, San Sebastián de los Gorgs and Las Gunyoles. Almost 6 hours of excursion between landscapes of vineyards and obligatory stops of heritage interest such as the monastery of San Sebastián and the church of San Pedro. San Sebastián de los Gorgs is an architectural complex with Romanesque and Gothic parts that can be visited in the town of Avinyonet and which has been of national interest since 2000, while San Pedro combines typically Romanesque elements with others typical of Arab architecture, like curved tiles. After three-quarters of a walk, you will find the Can Fàbregues de Cantallops Farmhouse, from the 16th century, and the beautiful Can Ràfols dels Caus wineries, located at the foot of the inner slope of the Garraf massif.
2. From San Pedro Molanta in Castellet
Stage of 5 and a half hours of travel that you must take in advance because you have to stop at the archaeological site of Olèrdola, a very representative jewel of the historical evolution of the region over the centuries. It combines prehistoric remains, vestiges of the Bronze Age, an Iberian settlement, a Roman fortification and a medieval city with Romanesque buildings and anthropomorphic tombs. It also has one of the headquarters of the Archaeological Museum of Catalonia (MAC). After the visit, you will pass through Santa Margarida i els Monjos and the Romanesque church of San Esteban before reaching the end of the route in Castellet i la Gornal, where you have to go up to the town to enjoy the magnificent architectural complex formed by the town, the castle and the church of San Pedro.
