Festival of Sant Quirze and Santa Julita in Calella
As every year, at the gates of summer, and on the occasion of the Festival of Sant Quirze and Santa Julita, Calella celebrates its Festival, with a lot of activities for all ages.
Each city has its patterns. Sant Quirze and Santa Julita are those of Calella. Venerated also in Italy, in Catalonia and the peninsula many towns have, as temples dedicated to their cult. Santa Julita was the mother of Sant Quirze and both died as martyrs for maintaining their faith. They are patrons of the poor, children and sawmills.
Their festivities begin the second half of June, preceding the night of San Juan. These days before the summer solstice in Calella an altercation erupts that invades not only the space but also the spirit. It is one of the occasions to make the Calellense pride shine. Throughout the week the activity multiplies. There are concerts, popular meals, dances, exhibitions, competitions, giants and trabucaires, all mixed in a party for everyone. A celebration of coexistence and traditions that seduces visitors with the warmth of local genius.
