The Ballad of Winter in Alta Ribagorça
The Alta Ribagorça region is preparing to experience The Winter Ballad, one of the most moving cultural projects of recent years. It is a participatory, poetic, and musical performance that pays tribute to the Ribagorzan poet Mossèn Anton Navarro (Vilaller, 1867 - Barcelona, 1936), coinciding with the 120th anniversary of the publication of his most emblematic book.
The performance features the 23 poems from the book La Balada d'Hivern, as well as excerpts from Pirenaicas (1903) and Recitaciones. Prosas rimadas (1914). The production combines recitation, stage performance, and live music, with dramaturgy by Eduard Muntada and musical composition by Lluís Cartes, two creators with strong ties to the mountains and the world of performing arts.
The project involves 30 volunteers from the three municipalities of the region – Vilaller, Vall de Boí, and El Pont de Suert – who lend their voices and music to this tribute. Local actors, reciters, and musicians participate, playing a wide variety of instruments: diatonic and chromatic accordions, guitars, clarinets, violin, cello, bass, percussion, flute, and glockenspiel.
A proposal that combines popular roots and contemporary sensibility, to thrill the public and celebrate the cultural richness of Ribagorça.
